Representation for Those Injured by Medical Professionals

In 2000, Jeff Paradowski secured the very first verdict in favor of a plaintiff in Brazos County in a medical negligence case. The case alleged that local physicians and a local hospital were negligent in their failure to timely diagnose and begin treatment of a Grade III astrocytoma brain tumor in a young 15-year-old girl. The young girl's parents had brought their daughter to the medical providers with classic signs and symptoms of brain tumor (double vision, nausea, headaches, papilledema). When she was finally sent for MRI, the MRI plainly showed golf ball-sized tumor in the left temporal lobe, but the radiologist failed to communicate the findings to the ordering physician. Out of desperation, and because they were unable to get any answers, the young Hispanic girl's parents took their daughter to Mexico for treatment, where the tumor was immediately diagnosed and emergency surgery was performed. We were only able to show that this young girl had greater than a 50% probability of surviving 5 years had the tumor been timely and properly diagnosed and thus were only able to recover for the value of the 5 years this family lost with their daughter. The jury awarded the parents $600,000, even though only $33,000 had been offered by the defendants before trial.

In 2001, Jeff Paradowski obtained one of the largest verdicts handed down in Robertson County. Our client was rear-ended by an 18 wheeler while sitting at a red light and sustained injuries to her neck and low back including a disk herniation at C5-6 which required a discectomy and fusion surgery. Although over $50,000 was incurred by our client in medical bills relating to her surgery, the trucking company's insurance carrier only offered $86,000 to settle the case prior to trial. The jury returned a verdict in favor of our client in the amount of $902,500.

In 2002, our firm secured a settlement of several million dollars on behalf of a family who tragically lost the mother of the household and youngest son. The trucking company hired the driver involved in the collision despite prior convictions against the driver for reckless driving. Witnesses testified that the trucker never hit his brakes prior to colliding with the rear of our client's vehicle, which was stopped waiting to turn left with the turn signal activated. The driver was subsequently charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with the crash.

In 2005, our firm successfully handled a medical negligence claim arising from the failure to diagnose a squamous cell carcinoma growing on our client's nose. Our client followed up with his physicians on ten separate occasions and was told on each visit that the lesion on his nose was simply a pre-cancerous lesion. When cancer was finally diagnosed, our client's entire nose had to be surgically removed, and complicated reconstructive surgeries were performed using a forehead flap. After these surgeries, our client endured several chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In addition to a large settlement paid to our client, policies were changed at this facility to see that something like this is less likely to occur in the future.

In 2006, we successfully negotiated a settlement on behalf of a woman had been admitted to the hospital for nausea and vomiting. Following a routine surgical procedure on her abdomen, a large hematoma developed on her spinal cord following an improperly administered epidural for pain control. Despite her complaints of pain and decreasing sensation in her legs, nearly a week transpired before an MRI was ordered that ultimately detected the large hematoma. Unfortunately, our client was permanently paralyzed because of this costly error. However, the settlement we obtained on her behalf ensures she will receive the best quality of care available for the remainder of her life.
